Easy Microwave 3 Minute Oats

by Sheri on November 25, 2012

One thing I never do is miss breakfast….it is after all the most important meal of the day!  Besides breakfast is also my favorite meal of the day.  But since I am a pretty busy Mom of two boys on weekday mornings I have to have something nutritious, yummy and quick.

Since winter has come very early to my part of the the world I have been making these easy oats almost every morning.  They are delicious and keep me full and satisfied for hours.

3 minute oats

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana, sliced
  • 1/2 C (overflowing) rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1/2 C (overflowing) milk or your choice (I like almond milk)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon or more to taste
  • Toppings as desired (berries, brown sugar, flax, coconut, nut butter, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.)

Instructions:

First, slice a ripe banana into a microwave safe bowl. The super ripe banana is the key to oatmeal — it makes it nice and sweet (the riper the banana, the sweeter it is!) and gives it a great texture!

Also make sure the bowl you use is nice and deep.  You don’t want the oats to bubble over while cooking.

Top the banana with the oats, almond milk, and cinnamon. I don’t usually make my oatmeal using water. Almond Milk makes it SO MUCH TASTIER!

Pop the bowl into the microwave and heat on high for 3 minutes, stopping once halfway through to stir.

Once it’s out, add desired toppings and enjoy!

Today I used Natural Peanut Butter, Pom Seeds and a sprinkle of coconut. YUM!

Give it a try!
