This morning started off with a little blogging and blog reading whilst I ate my breakfast.
A Cranberry Walnut Multigrain scone from the market yesterday with a banana taken from the free buffet and a hot coffee. Mmmm….so yummy. The banana actually did not get eaten as the scone filled me up nicely.
We lazed around in the hotel room this morning both the hubs and I on our computers. Plus we slept in till about 8:30am. We had a slow start. But heck it is our holidays and it is meant for resting!
After blogging and being a bum I decided to take a shower and then scout out some lunch before we started our afternoon activity.
I remembered this place on my travels from previous days and gave it a try.
It was one big gigantic salad bar…and I was having a hard time choosing. It was awesome!
This place is set up to take it to go so I brought it back to the hotel to eat.
I got lots of goodies. In my box was spinach, romaine, 3 different kinds of beans, peas, carrots, purple cabbage, peppers, beets, devilled egg, olives and a hunk of pineapple is was tasty! It was good to have some roughage!
I also stop at Starbucks and got me a cup of love!
A Skinny Caramel Latte! Still my favourite!
After lunch we made our way to the Science Centre to have a little fun!
Since it was NOT raining we took the opportunity to walk around the sea wall walk-way to get there. It was overcast but really nice and warm at 15 degrees.
We took a few pictures along the way.
The Science Centre was so much fun with lots to see and do. We also watched a IMAX movie while we were there. That was also very neat.
But I really had fun just reading and playing with the exhibits the most!
They had one exhibit that talked about your body shape and the BMI scale which I thought was really interesting.
I liked that they posted what the average Canadian woman’s height and weight are. What was not really surprising is that most models are thinner than 98% of women! That is just crazy! The comparison is just unbelievable!
Another fun exhibit was this one.
It had a disclaimer when you walked in the door!
I thought this birds and bees was cute!
Hubs played a little sperm game!
Interesting fact for you:
But we all knew that…right? (Sorry a bit blurry..bad lighting)
Half way thru our afternoon I snacked on a Luna bar and some water.
Next up we walked through their feature exhibit which is The Geee! in GENOME. This was really interesting because it was all about exploring the uses, implications and controversies of genomics. It challenges you to consider the question “If you could, would you?”
It had lots to read and interact with. We took a couple of surveys.
This question was split 50/50!
I found this interesting little exhibit to play around with too. I did a little shopping!
It was a basket of some food products. They had a scanner and you scanned the products bar code and it gave you the information behind it. I scanned all of them but found this interesting when I scanned the box of frozen pizza.
SOYA! Really. Used in lecithin which is in a lot of processed foods. Which I normally don’t eat anyway, but 63% of Soya crops are GM! That I found interesting!
We spent a good couple of hours at the Science Centre and had a great time. This is somewhere I would love to take J to when he gets older. He would have a blast.
We then came back to the hotel for a bit to research where to have some supper. We were in the mood for some sushi. We searched the internet for a bit but nothing we came across was close to the hotel or within walking distance. So we went and asked the front desk clerk. He directed us to a nice little Japanese Bistro about a 10 minute walk away…it was perfect!
It was small, cozy and dimly lit. With the sushi bar up front and centre.
I started with a glass of red wine. Hmmmm…I think I did that last night too!
We ordered and then they brought us a little appetizer.
The picture is a little dark but in the bowl was a cold mixture of small shrimp, rice stick noodles, cucumber and a kind of pickled dressing. It was quite good!
For myself I ordered some spicy scallops that were lightly fried in tempura with zucchini wrapped around them. They were topped with a spicy sauce.
I also got their taste of 7. It was a bite size piece of the best of their 7 rolls. It was scrumptious!
Everything was presented so beautifully…especially my hubby’s meal!
Look at that masterpiece. He hated to eat it! They even had a little candle on the plate. It was made with thinly cut cucumber.
After my meal I was still a little hungry so I ordered something else I saw on the menu that I really wanted to try.
Yam Fries! These were the BOMB! Oh so good and oh so not healthy in the least!! But hey every once in a while is not going to kill me! They were battered in tempura and fried then topped with a balsamic reduction, it was like syrup. The dip was a mayo type dip…these were heavenly!
After this I was FULL! Thank goodness we had to walk back to the hotel. It helped to walk out that full feeling.
Now I think we are going to go for a little night cap! Since it is our last night in Vancouver we are going to hit up a little wine bar at the Fairmont Hotel before calling it a night!
Off for another walk….
Bye for now!
