To market

by Sheri on January 6, 2011

Today I planned on going to the new market in town called Kingsland Farmers Market.  You see my favourite market the Calgary Farmers Market closed down after Christmas!  I was pretty sad about it.  However, they will be opening up at a new location in February but it will be quite far from my house.  Which well….sucks!

Mind you the Kingsland Market is not any closer.  It was about a 20 minute drive but I needed some essentials!  So J and I took a little drive this afternoon after lunch.  It was a lovely day out, a bit cool but the sun was shining so it was a nice drive.

But first I made myself a warm cup of tea to go in my new cup!

I got the travel mug and wonderfully yummy Green Walnut tea from my sister in-law for Christmas and I LOVE it!!

It is meant for loose tea and works very well.

add your tea to the holder

seal it up, add your hot water to the mug and you are good to go….awesome.

So what did I get for driving all that way.

A small but important haul of:

  • Local Organic Skim Milk
  • Fresh Bavarian Crust Rye Bread
  • Local Organic Grass Fed X-Lean Ground Beef
  • Local Fresh Organic Free Range Eggs
  • Fresh whole made Deli Meat (Montreal Smoked Meat and Honey Maple Baked Turkey)

I am good on veggies right now but I did have a look at the Kale but it was already turning yellow so I decided against it.

The major reason I went to the market was to get the eggs!

I love eggs for breakfast and since I have been eating Organic Free Range eggs I really want nothing else!  They taste awesome and are so fresh you just can’t compare them to the regular grocery store eggs.  Which by the way are just well blech!  I don’t mind paying the extra for these eggs they are just that good!  These eggs are from a local farm called Oxyoke Farms so I can’t wait to try them.  I was looking into being a part of a CSA this summer and this is one of the farms I was interested in.

When I got home I needed my afternoon snack.  I had a new smoothie planned for today.

This recipe is out of one of my favourite magazines Oxygen.  When I read this recipe I just knew I had to try it.  The name alone Chai Tea Recharger got me!  I love Chia Tea.

The recipe is very simple and tasted great.

Chai Tea Recharger

1 1/2 cups chilled, brewed chai tea (I did this the night before and let it sit in the fridge overnight)

1/2 cup skim milk or unsweetened soy or almond milk

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

1 small banana

1 tsp honey

1/2 – 1 tsp cinnamon

Ice cubes

Toss all the ingredients into a blender and mix.

It was pretty darn yummy!  I will make this again for sure.  Better for you than a Starbucks Chia latte Winking smile

It was light, creamy and frothy!  So good…it hit the spot and helped control my afternoon sweet tooth as well.

Catch ya later!
