What a busy Saturday!

Sep 27

Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day!  I got up at 7am and did a great workout.  I knew if I did not do it then it was not going to happen.

I did a weight circuit.  I love doing these because it gives you a great workout and gets the heart pumping!

This is what I cranked out:

  • Bulgarian Split Squat – X8 each leg
  • SB Push Up – X10

~ This was done 3 times as a super set.

  • 1 Leg Romanin Deadlift – X12 each leg
  • SB Pass – 8 Complete passes

~ 3 times as a super set

  • Sumo Squat – X12 (15lb dumbell)
  • SB Pike – X8 (these are killer!)

~ 3 times as a super set

After I completed my weights I did 10 minutes of cardio intervals.  I alternated between burpees, jumping jacks, running in place, skipping rope and mountain climbers.  This was done 30 seconds activity/30 seconds rest.  It gets pretty hard towards then end!

Breakfast was kept on the light side I made a protein smoothie.  My day was going to be a lot of eating out so I wanted to keep my calories light.

In the morning I was going to a Breast Cancer Benefit that I and my friend attend every year and have a really nice time.

P1030195 It is called Fashion with Compassion.  It helps to raise funds for Breast Cancer Supportive Care here in the city.  It is a lovely afternoon with a ton of women who have either gone thru or have been touched by or know someone who has had breast cancer.  They have a luncheon with a fashion show plus a silent auction and a raffle drawing.  This year the grand prize trip was to New York but of course I did not win!  But I still had a lovely afternoon.

The menu looked wonderful!

P1030197 When we sat down to our table the salad was already there.

P1030196 It was some mixed greens with tomatoes and feta cheese along with a very tasty dressing.

While we were eating they had a lady singing New York, New York this year since the theme was New York!

P1030203 She was a breast cancer survivor.

Next they poured us a little glass of red wine…yum!

P1030198 Then came our main course!

P1030200 Chicken breast…with a sauce that was so delicious!  Plus whipped potatoes and steamed veggies.  It was all very good!

P1030205 Dessert was cheesecake! I love cheesecake and it did not disappoint!  It was creamy and oh so good!  I had it along with a cup of coffee.

P1030207 The afternoon ended with lots of thank you’s and the drawings for the grande prize trips to New York.  It was a great afternoon!  Plus I got to spend it with a good friend that I don’t get to see all that often.

Once I got home I needed to get changed and put J’s stuff together as he was going to Grandma’s for the night.  His Daddy and I were off to another fundraiser this time this was for Ups and Downs.  It is a community resource centre that helps family with children that have Down Syndrome.  So to show our support my hubby and I bought tickets to go and cook some food and drink some wine with other parents with children with the same condition as J.  It was a lot of fun!

The cooking class was held at a place called Cookbook Co. Cooks.  This place has a gourmet shop out front and a cooking studio in the back.  They hold cooking classes pretty much everyday of the year and always sell out quickly they also do private parties such as the one we went to.

When we got there the chef and her helpers were all very busy getting everything ready for us!

P1030210 D and I found our spot and got settled in.  We said a few hello’s to the other parents and I had a look at what we would be cooking.

P1030213 It all sounded delish!

How it works is you all pair off into groups of four and cook one of the recipes our was the Greens with Walnut oil.

P1030216 All the ingredients were placed on the table in front of us.

P1030218 Then we got to work!

P1030226 P1030227 I got stuck preparing the beets for the salad.  Which meant peeling and shredded them!  I requested gloves for this as I DID NOT want purple hands for the next week!

P1030225

P1030235 All my hardwork!

Hubs took care of the nuts! We had to roast pecans with a bunch of spices and butter in the pan he took that job on the stove with the Chef watching over him to make sure not to burn them!

P1030228

P1030231 I must say he did a very good job!  They tasted great!

While all the cooking was happening in the kitchen we had our appetizer of the prawns they were so..so..so good!  Unfortunately  I did not get a picture because they were eaten on the run so to speak!  Since we were all getting pretty hungry by that point everyone was scarfing them down.

Putting this meal together with everyone was so much fun!  But it was more fun to sit down and eat the fruits of our labour!

First we started with the Roasted Tomato soup

P1030238 It was very good it also had chunks of veggies and herbs in it.

Next was our main course

P1030242 On this plate was a seared ribeye steak with a wonderful sauce on top, polenta with herbs, parmesan costini, our salad.  This was a huge portion.  I did leave some on my plate so that I could try the dessert as well.

Which was really good!

P1030248 It was a meringue with a seasonal fruit compote and on top a Amaretti cookie!  The compote had apples, pears and raisins in it.  There was also a yogurt cream over the fruit.  It was just the right way to finish off our meal.  I was stuffed!

We had such a great time!  I liked be able to talk and connect with the other parents.  We all had so much to talk about.  Hubby was happy because he could partake in the silent auction!  He loves a little competition!

Of course we did walk away with some lovely items!

P1030255 We won two different tasting menus with wine parings.  One is for Rush Restaurant and the other is for The Livingroom.  They are two restaurants in our city that we have not yet been too and D really wanted to try them.  We love tasting menus they are always fun to eat.  So you will probably see a review of these two restaurant when we get a chance to go.

I managed to win myself a basket with some goodies in it too.  I realized that I forgot to take a picture of it before I took it apart! Shoot!  But it had two bags of whole bean coffee in it, two to-go mugs, some kitchen utensils, and two throw blankets.  It was really nice.  All this was for a great cause and will benefit the kids.

After we left there we met some friends at a local pub for a few drinks and some catching up.  We have not all  been together for a while so it was nice to see each other again!  We did not get home until after midnight and let me tell you that is pretty late for this couple!  We pretty much fell into bed and went straight to sleep!

Well that was Saturday and I will end there for now.  I still have a bunch of stuff on my to do list that I need to get done!

I will be back later with a recap of today’s shenanigans!
